FLCL (Fooley Cooley) – フリクリ Furi Kuri

FLCL, better known as Fooley Cooley (Japanese: Furi Kuri). A fantastic anime in my opinion, a great one if you have nothing better to do. It teaches the lesson of growing up and losing the childish view of life.

A provocative anime (and manga) about a high school student named Naota Nanbada. He lives his boring teenage life in his boring and psychologically isolated town of Mabase…that is, until a beautiful alien woman who goes by the name of Haruko Haruhara comes. She is in search of the alien pirate Atmost. Naota is with his dark and mysterious girlfriend Mamimi Samejima when Haruko comes racing down the street with a Vespa scooter and slams her alien guitar (bass, but who cares?) against Naota’s head. After the incident, Naota learns that Haruko has now become his family(his father, grandfather, and himself)’s house maid. Naota also see a strange bump on his head where it was hit by Haruko. This bump grows, and grows, and grows, until one night on the bridge…two robots burst out of his head. One of these robots protects Naota, and befriends him, and is later dubbed “Canti” by Haruko. Metal Mechanica, Atmosk, and Haruko are in a three way war with one another, and Naota’s caught right in the crossfire. Although it is short (6 episodes short) it is full action, excitement, and adventure. It has many references to other animes and music, along with unnecessary product placement such as references to: Pepsi, South Park, Lupin III, Shin Chan, Elvis Presley and others. It’s like a grenade of awesome anime that explodes in your face “ptsssskahhhhglglglg.” Yeah, like that. Take a look sometime, you’ll like it.
